Gloria Guinness Gemini Estate Is REALLY Worth the Hype?

Gloria Guinness, born in Mexico in 1912 and passing away in 1980, was a prominent figure in high society and a style icon renowned for her elegance and grace. She was considered one of the “Best Dressed Women in the World” and contributed as a fashion editor to Harper’s Bazaar. Her marriage to Loel Guinness of the famous brewing dynasty further elevated her status within international elite circles.

Gloria and her husband, owned several homes around the world, each reflecting their exquisite taste and the high life they led. Their estate in Florida was no exception, embodying luxury, style, and the couple’s flair for hosting lavish parties and gatherings.

Guinness also maintained residences in London, Paris,  Lausanne Switzerland,  Acapulco Mexico and Palm Beach. She loved hosting and traveling with rich and influential friends like Babe and William Paley.

Does this multiplicity of homes mean constant anxiety, brought on by decisions, decisions, decisions? Not for Gloria Guinness. “In a way,” says she, “it is a very bourgeois little life we lead. So many people think it is difficult keeping all these homes, but I believe it is easier to keep five than one. You can’t possibly spend twelve months at any one place.”

The Florida estate of Gloria Guinness was located in Palm Beach, a hotspot for the wealthy and famous, known for its opulent mansions and pristine beaches. This area has long been a retreat for America’s aristocracy, with its properties showcasing the pinnacle of architectural design and luxury living.

Built in the 1940s for the Lambert pharmaceutical family and designed by architect Marion Sims Wyeth, the estate was eventually sold to Loel and Gloria Guinness as a winter retreat. The Florida home of Gloria Guinness, style icon and one of Truman Capote’s famous Swans played host to the most glamorous people of its day, including Capote of course.  The Duke and Duchess of Windsor were visitors,  when their beloved pug passed away several Palm Beach dinner parties were cancelled so the would-be party-goers could pay their respects to the dog, contemporary accounts in local society pages report.

Gloria’s flair for decorating and entertaining significantly contributed to the estate’s reputation as a pinnacle of luxury and sophistication. The couple’s patronage of the arts and philanthropy further enhanced their status within the Palm Beach community and beyond.

The estate’s name, Gemini, is derived from the main house’s configuration on both sides of South Ocean Boulevard.

The Gemini estate, located in Palm Beach, lies on a barrier island, with 1,200 feet of Atlantic Ocean waterfront and 1,300 feet of frontage on the Intracoastal Waterway. In addition to the main home, Gemini boasts a seven-bedroom house, two four-bedroom cottages, staff housing with four apartments, and manager offices. The main home has a living room that is literally a tunnel—a below-ground passageway beneath South Ocean Boulevard—with skylights at each end of the living room for light.
