Obama’s Home in Washington
The Obamas left the White House in 2017 but didn’t move out that far. The family bought a sprawling 9-bedroom home in the Kalorama neighborhood, a historic district in the northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C.
The Obamas’ neighborhood is exclusive and wealthy enclave that is home to a host of politicians and diplomats; Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, as well as Rex Tillerson live there.
They live in the neighborhood, down the street from the White House. The family initially rented the imposing property but finally acquired it in 2017. They didn’t want to leave Washington, D.C., which they have been calling home for eight years, so the Obamas have put down permanent roots in the city.
After leaving the White House in January 2017, the Obamas decided to stay in the capital city, allowing their youngest daughter, Sasha, to finish high school.
Michelle Obama searched for the house on her own because it happened while her famous husband was still working in the office. She picked out the historic property, whose former owner was Joe Lockhart, a previous White House press secretary. Lockhart bought the estate for around 5 million dollars, while the Obamas paid for their new home a reported 8 million dollars.
