The now-ex-couple purchased a controlling stake in a sprawling villa in 2008. They signed a long-term lease on the property in 2008 with the intention of eventually turning it into their principal residence. Brad and Angelina officially acquired the home in 2012 for an estimated 60 million dollars.
Château Miraval boasts a private lake, pine forests, sprawling hillsides, olive groves, multiple fountains, aqueducts, streams, a vineyard, and a moat. The grounds are glorious, producing fine wine, truffles, honey, and olive oil. The land is ideal for organic farming. It seems the place has it all, even celebrity neighbors such as Johnny Depp, David, and Victoria Beckham.
The magnificent 1,200-acre estate sits along an ancient Roman road in the small village of Correns in South France. There’s a dated stone with the inscription “1820” on the territory. The complex contains multiple structures dating back to the 17th century, but its history is even more ancient. In 1252, an influential philosopher and theologian, Saint Thomas Aquinas, reportedly spent several days at the house. This lovely place served as a monastery in the Middle Ages. In the 15th century, the château was the private residence of the Orsini Prince of Naples. Then, French jazz pianist Jacques Loussier bought it in 1970. He created Studio Miraval, and several renowned performers recorded tracks there, including Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Sting, and Muse.
In 1992, American winemaker Tom Bove purchased Miraval for its lush vineyards. The new owner developed the château into one of France’s top organic wine producers. He described Miraval as an absolutely incredible property, considering it very remote and beautiful. Tom Bove said, “There was a very special smell of winter jasmine, thyme, and rosemary.”
Then, the Hollywood couple bought the picturesque property. Remarkably, Mr. Bove described Angelina as “such a beautiful person” and Brad as “down to earth” and “very smart.” He was happy to pass Miraval to people who would keep it in good repair. When Pitt and Jolie moved in, they continued the wine-growing tradition. The ex-couple launched Miraval wines with France’s reputed Perrin family on Valentine’s Day 2013. The same year, they sold their first 6,000 rosé bottles for 140 dollars per case. The pale pink Château Miraval Rosé is a fresh and fruity wine with aromas of citrus and red fruits. It took them only five hours to sell the last bottle!
